Speakers Voltage?
i have a dell laptop (inspiron 6000), which i am planning on adding 0603 SMT/SMD leds to it. I plan on using the speakers as the power source. i found out that the speakers are not measured in volts, its rated at 4 ohms and the amp puts out 1 watt per channel. I plan on connecting 2 leds to each speaker. So how do i find out what to do?
P = E²/R
1 = E²/4
E = 2 volts. That is the highest RMS voltage you will see, which is about 2.8 volts peak. Usually the voltage will be a lot lower than that.
Led's take 1.8 to 3 volts, depending on the model.
If you can find some very sensitive LEDs and you play the speakers loud, you may get some flickers out of the LEDs. At best.
